Music Questions…

SZ: Favorite Scale or Mode?

My favorite scale is being able to play all the notes on the fret board.

SZ: Favorite key?

C sharp minor

SZ: Favorite trick or lick, trick or both?

The whammy bar is my favorite trick although I’m not good as a magician.

SZ: Suggested Theory books or readings:

I haven’t read any books on guitar playing.

SZ: Recommend any CD’s for our readers to check out?

Mine!!    Haha

SZ: What advice can you give to ammeter and beginner players?

You must be dedicated to want to learn how to play.  You can only play what your capable of playing…

SZ: What guitars do you use and why?  Have you made any upgrades, modifications, or had custom work done on them?

I went from a Jackson Dinky DK2 to a Jackson DKMG.  I would love to have a custom guitar designed with scalloped frets and designed especially for me but I’m still saving up the money.

SZ: What gear are you currently using?

Line 6 Pod Pro, and that’s all you need.

SZ: What do you think of the present music scene in the US?

You mean like Brittany Spears and the Back Street Boys?  She doesn’t sing and they don’t play anything.  It isn’t shredding that died it was the music industry.

SZ: Give us your feelings on the current state of instrumental and guitar driven music in the US or worldwide?

Outside of the early 80’s metal I haven’t listened to anything else.  I bought an Eric Johnson CD about 4 months ago, that’s the closest CD I have to instrumental.

Some fun questions:

SZ: What other outside interests do you have?

I am a huge Tampa Bay Buccaneer fan.  Football is a good outlet for me.

SZ: Favorite movies?

The whole Rocky series.

SZ: Favorite actor and actress?

Hmm, I would have to say that my favorite actor is Al Pacino, and my favorite actress would have to be Marisa Tomei.

SZ: Favorite food and drink?

Spaghetti (I’m Italian) and water (I guess that’s the bodybuilder in me) but I can never resist an ice cold Michelob Light.

SZ: Favorite book?

My Side of the Mountain – I read it in 2nd grade

SZ: Favorite song?

“Waiting for Darkness” by Ozzy and Jake.

SZ: Married or single? (For potential female fans!)

I’d love to say I’m single but she won’t let me.

SZ: What sports do you enjoy or take part in?

Football, I usually have all the neighborhood kids here every day for a fun game of touch football, and I am a season ticket holder for Buccaneer Football.

SZ: Can you share some words of wisdom?

Practice really does make perfect.

SZ: Where can our readers go buy your instructional lessons?

SZ: Homepage Url:   www.joeydahlia.com

SZ: Contact email address:   RiPPnFaStLiCk@aol.com

SZ: Lastly, any closing words, or things that come to mind that we may have over looked in the course of this interview?

I do want to say that my legato technique finally surpassed my alternating picking and I have been working on it for over a year now.  I appreciate your interest in my music and thank you so much for asking such questions that really made me think.  I really meant it when I said that Shredders didn’t die it’s the music industry that died.  It was never about the music it’s always been about money.  I am proof of that.  I play for me – I just can’t see myself going on tour and leaving my family behind, I like my life just the way it is.   Y’know what I mean?

SZ: Well folks, that about wraps it up.  Thanks Joey for a great interview, we had a blast talking to you.  I reviewed your instructional technique lessons and they are amazing.  We hope our readers drop by your site and check them out!  Joey Dahlia is a very humble and fun person to talk to.  His skills and guitar playing are very pro, but he doesn't have the attitude to go along with it.  I can't wait to hear a full CD release from him in the near future.  It will be over the top and action packed that's for sure!  And if your in the Florida area send Joey and email and inquire about in person guitar lessons!  Thanks again.
