Carson "Empty Scream"

    Carson is a hard rock band hailing from Scotland that showcases modern hard rock style. Their song writing is very catchy and radio friendly. The vocals have a very "now" sound and don't sound dated to any genre at all. The guitars are super heavy and really drive the songs from start to finish. Song one "Empty Scream [In My Head]" is a fast paced number that blends elements of modern rock, punk and metal all in one. The vocals performance by Gordon Skene is great and his voice really fits the music. The guitar playing is great, I loved the octave guitar lines as rhythms. These guys really know how to lay down a fat groove! Overall its a well written song with some great musicianship. "Remedy" is a slower darker number that shows the different colors that make up Carson. I loved the clean guitar line, that kept the main verses moving and then they break into mucho heaviness for the chorus lines. The main lead just rocked, it was real upbeat and melodic. Its great to see modern bands that play leads! I give these guys my hats off for putting them in. Remember kids, soloing is cool! Lastly, "Backwards" brings the demo to a close unfortunately. This track just rocks. The guitar playing is top notch and really drives the songs feel. I also dug the clean breaks throughout the song, they really helped build tension. In conclusion, I have to give Carson a round of applause for their smashing demo. They take modern music into a higher level by adding in more melodies, sing-a-long vocals, and solos. I really think these guys have a good future, and if they keep it up we'll be hearing their work on the radio soon enough!
