The Halo Storm Project
USA Instrumental metal, jazz and fusion
The Halo Storm Project has got to be one of the best self home recorded projects
I've heard in a while. The sound quality is great and everything is clean. The
guitar playing is smoking on this demo. Track on "Halo Storm"
has a great rhythm that carries throughout the song. I especially
like the heavy rhythm guitar pounding out chords. It sets a great foundation
for the shred fest that appears all over the song. To help break up the
song there are some cool sound effects added in that give the song a "industrial"
like feel. Not in the sense that this is industrial music, but imagine
standing inside a steel factory. I think then you'll get my drift. Leads
are cool, lots of runs and trem bar use. And they are not over done,
Halo Storm used enough leads to get their point across. "If
the Devil Calls, I'm Not In" is a jazz driven song that combines
jazz leads with shred. The backing section keeps the groove going on and
on. Let me warm you, there are extreme amounts of fretboard ripping in
this one so, listeners beware! Track three "Blood" opens with
a heart pounding metal riff from hell, that will tear down all the walls
and get you head banging too. It even has some vocals in the middle of
the song that rock as well. This song is less lead driven, and has more
focus on song elements and structure. It's a one of my favorites on the
CD. Track four "Whitewashed Tombs" has a very eerie
feel to it that's for sure. They rhythm section in this song are awesome,
Halo storm really knows how to write a creepy song. The leads also add
to the eeriness of the track. The song has fusion vibe going on as far
as the leads go, but I've never heard scary sounding fusion before. The
leads are well constructed and have use lots of note emphasis. Overall,
this was a great demo CD. Songs were well written, and this has got to
be one of the most different instrumental CDs I've ever heard. Song writing
is great and has lots of creativity. That's one thing the instrumental
industry is lacking, creative players, the don't rehash what everyone
else does.
